Exercise Poster: The Reminder You See All the Time
Setting-based prevention at zero cost: An exercise poster keeps exercises visible – a simple, widespread WHP component in the field of ergonomics.
Why does visibility solve the knowledge problem?
Almost everyone knows that you should stand up and stretch from time to time. But knowledge alone doesn't change anything, because no one thinks about it during the workflow. A well-placed poster takes over the job of reminding: It stands there, catches your eye at the right moment, and turns a vague intention into a concrete small action.
Where is the best place to hang the poster?
At the desk, in the break room, next to the copier – anywhere you wait briefly or let your gaze wander, a poster has an effect. Three or four simple exercises with clear images are enough. If you change the images every few weeks, you keep attention fresh and prevent the poster from becoming invisible wallpaper.
How much impact does a poster have with almost zero budget?
The ratio of effort to reach is very good. A few printed pages reach everyone who passes by – with no participation barrier at all. As a companion to a back or movement initiative, the poster extends its impact far beyond the campaign period. More measures that cost little or nothing can be found in the guide WHP without a budget.
How do you put the measure in place?
- 1Choose 5 simple exercises: stretching, strengthening, mobilising – no equipment, doable right at the workplace
- 2Design them as a clear A3 poster: large pictures, short instructions, easy to read from 1–2 metres
- 3Plan the placement: hang it where people wait or pause briefly (next to the printer, in the kitchen, at the workstation)
- 4Provide a digital version (intranet/background image) for working from home
- 5Hang the poster where it is visible and briefly announce what it is about
- 6Invite people to try it: 2 minutes are enough, any time in between
- 7As a manager, visibly demonstrate one exercise – it lowers the barrier
- 8Leave the poster up – constant visibility is the whole trick
- 9Swap the exercises every few months so it does not turn into wallpaper
- 10Roll it out at new workstations and locations
- 11Observe casually: are the exercises being done?
- 12Ask briefly which exercises work well and which do not
- 13Update the set and, if useful, combine it with an active-break reminder

Tax and health insurance: what is possible
Employer health benefits can be tax-free under § 3 no. 34 of the German Income Tax Act (EStG) up to €600 per employee per year — if they are provided in addition to the salary already owed and are either certified (§ 20 SGB V) or implemented within the company's health promotion process. Gym memberships and corporate fitness are not covered. For ZPP-certified courses (e.g. from Upfit), German statutory health insurers can reimburse all or part of the course fee to their insured members — then only the amount exceeding that reimbursement is tax-free. Projects within the company can be funded under § 20b SGB V, with no entitlement. Only your tax adviser can confirm the tax exemption.
